Respiratory Protection
Respiratory Protection is an important line of defense in environments where workers may be exposed to hazardous dusts, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, and vapors. Respirator use is required when effective engineering controls (fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, etc.) or ventilation are not available or not efficient enough to provide worker protection.
The FIU Respiratory Protection Program provides written guidelines, assessments, fit-testing, medical evaluation, and training for workers required to use respirators in accordance with the OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard 29 CFR 1910.134.
To request an assessment, medical evaluation or fit-testing for respirator use, please contact EH&S General/Industrial Safety at 305-348-7835 or ehs@fiu.edu.
